Import IFC Road Model (BETA)¶
Use this dialog to import a road model from an IFC file into an SFI model in Gemini Terrain. You select which surfaces in the IFC file to import, and which layers and surfaces in the road they are linked to.
Note
The function is in BETA. Check the result of the import before you continue working on the road.
Where do I find the dialog?¶
You can open the dialog in two ways:
- Select File - Import. Select IFC as the file type, and select the IFC file in the open file dialog.
- Drag the IFC file from File Explorer, and drop it in the model list.
The dialog then opens.
Coordinate System¶
| Field | Description |
|---|---|
| Coordinate system | Shows the coordinate system in the IFC file, for example ETRS89/UTM ZONE 32N. |
| Elevation system | Shows the elevation system in the IFC file. |
If the coordinate system or elevation system differs from the project, you are asked whether you want to transform the coordinates.
The program takes the project base point specified in Settings Gemini Terrain - Project - IFC into account, in the same way as when importing other formats.
Info
See IFC for settings for the project base point.
Select Road¶
| Field | Description |
|---|---|
| Road name | Shows the name of the road (IfcRoad) in the IFC file, for example Atkomst1.SFI. If the IFC file contains several roads, you can select which one to import. |
| Alignment | Shows the alignment to import, for example CL. If the IFC file contains several alignments, you can select which one to import. |
Surfaces to Import¶
The table shows the surfaces in the IFC file. For each surface, you specify whether to import it, and where in the road it goes.
| Column | Description |
|---|---|
| Activate | Select the surfaces to import. |
| Name | The name of the surface in the IFC file, for example Overflate 1.01. |
| Class | The IFC class of the object, for example IfcCourse (carriageway and shoulder), IfcDistributionChamberElement (ditch), or IfcEarthworksCut (soil cut). |
| Import to layer | The layer in the road that the surface is imported to, for example Teo. 0: Surface. |
| Import to surface | The surface type in the road that the surface is imported as, for example Carriageway, Shoulder, Ditch, or Soil cut. |
With Import rules, you select a set of rules that fills in Import to layer and Import to surface automatically, for example Default.
Original IFC Data¶
| Option | Description |
|---|---|
| Import centerline (alignment) to Sfi | Imports the alignment in the IFC file as the centerline in the SFI model. |
| Import strata to new application layers | Imports the terrain strata in the IFC file, for example soil and rock, to new application layers. The program does not link the strata to the stratum types in Gemini Terrain. |
| Import road surfaces to application layer as triangle net | Imports the road surfaces as a triangle net to the application layer you select in the list on the right, for example Bygninger40. |
Calculated Data¶
The program can calculate new data for the road from the road surfaces in the IFC file.
| Option | Description |
|---|---|
| Calculate 3D lines | Calculates 3D lines from the road surfaces. |
| Calculate surface descriptions | Calculates surface descriptions for the road (manual method) from the road surfaces. The program interprets the geometry in the IFC file and builds the surface descriptions backwards from it (reverse engineering). |
| Set widths of cut/fill surfaces as undefined | Sets the width of cut and fill surfaces as undefined. The program then calculates the width against the terrain, instead of using the fixed width from the IFC geometry. This option is only available when Calculate surface descriptions is selected. |
Info
See Surface Descriptions for a description of surface descriptions.
Importing the Road Model¶
Procedure
- Select File - Import and select the IFC file, or drag the file into the model list. The Import IFC Road Model (BETA) dialog opens.
- Check Coordinate system and Elevation system.
- Select Road name and Alignment if the file contains several roads or alignments.
- Select Import rules, and check the layer and surface for each surface in the table.
- Select the surfaces to import in the Activate column.
- Select what to import under Original IFC Data.
- Select what to calculate under Calculated Data.
- Click OK to import.
